DIY Breadboard for pedals experimenting

Postby maz » March 16th, 2014, 10:06 am

A breadboard (aka protoboard) is usually used for prototyping of electronics. The term "breadboard" is commonly used to refer to a solderless breadboard.

A breadboard is very usefull for prototyping, because it does not require soldering, it is reusable. This makes it easy to use for creating temporary prototypes and experimenting with circuit design.

Now, this little tool can be upgraded to be more suitable for guitar pedal prototyping.

Here's some pictures of my DIY breadboard in order to give interested people a bit of inspiration and make the build easier:

Potentiometers and switches go here:

9V battery to power the circuit and the led:

The wiring in the bypass box is quite simple:

This is a typical 3PDT wiring with the input/output grounded while the effect is off. Purple 3 circles show the wires that must come out of the box to connect to the breadboard. All the grounds are tied together along with the battery ground and then comes out of the box, for a total of 4 wires connected to the breadboard.

Et VoilĂ ! With this pedal experimenting breadboard it is now fast and easy for hooking up your prototypes to the guitar and amp :)

You could make your own by using "in line" machined IC sockets

woooooo :D thank you mosfet for this link :!: :!: :!: machined sockets will make this thing a very useful and reliable device for prototyping pedal circuits.

I've used a "peg board" made from a piece of plywood and some brass nails for prototyping. That's a bit of a pain to work with, though. Maybe I will consider to build one like you :great:
